Following the North Star

Following the North Star

Just a quick post today, I haven't been able to do anything new because of college so enjoy another explore from the archives.

North Star Recycling Co appears to have opened sometime in the 1950s. Due to the time of it's closure and lack of historical significance the history of this facility has been lost to time.

North Star Recycling was shuttered sometime in the late 90s with the owners/operators likely moving to Detroit to found Fort Iron & Metal in 2009.

I didn't take this photo but the person that did doesn't have socials I can credit.

I found out about this place through the person that took the photo above. It was in the area where one of my friends I was trying to get into urbex lived so, I hit them up and we headed over.

The remains of the giant shredder.

The first time we went we started in the rear of the property exploring the control tower for the giant shredder first. The inside of this building was trashed and appeared to be a popular drunk teenager and homeless people hangout spot.

The low quality stuff is screenshots from my shitty old GoPro.

The large site had now become a total jungle

View from the control room.

While taking a quick break in the upstairs control room a train roared past, this place was situated right down the middle of two busy rail lines.

As we were leaving the tower we encountered the guard assigned to protecting this place, Luckily these feline faculty are easy to bribe with snacks and water.

We now headed north towards the center of the site, unfortunately to avoid being spotted we had to stick to the thick brush.

In the thick of it we found this strange red building.

The door appears to have peeled into two pieces.

It looked like a good chunk of the buildings had been demolished, however there was still a somewhat large building at the front of the site that seems to have been targeted less by our good friends the vandals.

Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?

After walking the perimeter of the warehouse it was looking pretty dry for entrance spots, the only obvious one involved climbing through a sharp metal hole at an awkward angle from a broken pair of stairs.

We eventually found a large sliding door that was loose enough to squeeze under and we were in.

Unfortunately this victory was short lived as a sudden rattling sound put us both on edge. I quickly disregarded the sound, however my friend then heard me subconsciously clicking my flashlight over and over again and informed me he heard "footsteps".

This put me on edge even more as we had both been forced to flee a building just a week prior due to a group of people in an unmarked van arriving.

Deciding not to risk it we left and came back on another day to finish the explore which turned out to just be 2 more rooms as the door to the offices was sealed. What a waste of time.

Anyways that is all from me for a little bit, I will try to get some new explore in before the end of the month but college work has been consuming my every waking moment for the time being.

Mutagen Out.
