After lots of consideration I have decided to stop using WordPress to run my blog and instead switch to blogger. This all started a few months ago when I checked one of my posts on a different computer that did not have an adblocker installed on it. After checking through the post I realized there was a big cluster of ads at the bottom of the page. I knew that WordPress put some ads on your site if you didn't pay monthly to host it but this was far worse than I had expected. To make matters worse they weren't just any ads, but those disgusting creepy ads you always see whenever you click on a sketchy news site or obscure webpage, You know the ones "This one simple trick removes skin wrinkles", "Top Doctor says shove a shoe up your ass before bed" "If you are under 40 don't play this game!" of course accompanied with the most vile and borderline porno thumbnails known to man.
I wasn't happy about the ads but I decided to just run with it and added a note at the bottom of each post kindly recommending you ignore the ads below. This worked for a few months and life went on as usual until about a week ago when I realized that WordPress had now shoved ads into every corner of my website. Now there was ads on the homepage, in the search results, and even in the middle of some posts! What made me even more mad was that WordPress would place the ads in a way to make it look like I put them there on purpose.
At this point I was done putting up with WordPress's bullshit. I wasn't about to fork over some cash for a website nobody reads but I refuse to associate these vile ads with my brand.
After spending a bit of time searching for alternatives I decided to settle on Blogger as it doesn't force you to pay and it also doesn't force you to display ads. I got the idea to try Blogger initially from a fellow blogger and partial inspiration to start blogging in the first place, nailhed. Unfortunately blogger's website designs and overall customization is a bit limited, their templates are also pretty dated. I liked the template and formatting that Nailhead used for his blog so I decided to partake in the old Detroit pastime of stealing.
It's sad to leave my nice modern eye candy website behind but I feel this is for the better. WordPress actually had a photo upload limit too so this was inevitable. As for the old posts I will try to move them over but I actually don't have some of the photos used in the old blogposts anymore. I do have some new idea's in mind for this site as well, I would like to make an area specifically for research purposes that includes all historical photos/documents/data I've recovered from places. As for now I will continue to work on making this site my new permanent home.
